Working with Schools
How we work with special needs schools and their young people.

Jennie is currently working at a special needs schools in Berkshire. The first thing new students learn about safety when working in the van which includes what to do in the event of a fire or accident. Following that we start learning about the coffee equipment and the different coffees whilst serving customers.
Students will then gradually begin working on ASDAN Lifeskills modules (Ofqual accredited) selected to suit their learning abilities, personal and work experience goals.

Modules that students are currently working on include:
-
Customer service in a cafe
-
Understanding Money
-
Hygiene in the kitchen
-
Cleaning the kitchen in a cafe
-
Taking payment from a customer
-
Health & safety in the workplace
-
Using a stock system
-
General Barista Skills
-
Using Money
It is also possible for more able students to do an online Food Hygiene course at home or in school time. This is a City & Guilds accredited programme and is recognised across the food industry.
Jennie usually works with 3 students for a minimum of an hour each until 2pm. There is an emphasis on building a rapport with the student and putting them at ease whilst gradually increasing their confidence.
There may also be opportunities for some students to work on the van at community events when they feel ready.
Jennie will also collaborate with other cafes and training providers so that the students can carry on receiving work experience when they are ready to move on from here.
If you have any questions or would like to discuss how we can work with your students, please get in touch!
