Our Curriculum
We don't just make coffee!
Our students follow individual modules accredited by ASDAN
Further details below...
ASDAN is an education charity and awarding organisation whose curriculum programmes and qualifications transform life chances through learning. The Butterfly Community Cafe C.I.C is registered with ASDAN to deliver their Lifeskills course.
The Lifeskills course enables centres to meet individual needs by providing a personalised curriculum for young people with SEND. Topics include employability; independent living; out in the community; PSHE; and sport and fitness.
The qualifications are approved and regulated in England (Ofqual), Wales (Qualifications Wales) and Northern Ireland (CCEA) and are supported by high quality resources. Our qualifications, which include Employability, Personal Progress and Personal and Social Development, are portfolio-based and are moderated externally by post.
ASDAN's SEND courses support the achievement of the four preparing for adulthood outcomes, outlined in the SEND Code of Practice for England. These are:
-
employment
-
independent living
-
friends, relationships and community
-
good health
The Butterfly Community Cafe facilitates the achievement of these outcomes by teaching existing lifeskills modules and creating our own to suit our learners (following ASDAN moderation).
The modules we teach alongside learning how to make coffees include the following:-
-
Health & Safety in the Workplace
-
Hygiene in the Kitchen
-
Dealing with a Fire
-
Customer Service in a Cafe
-
Cleaning the Kitchen in a Cafe
-
Opening a Coffee Van for Service
-
Taking Payment from a Customer
-
Using a Stock System
We also spend time getting to know the student on a personal level and help them to become more confident.
For the more able student there are options to take industry recognised Food Hygiene & Safety certification.
